Instructions for Applicants

We are pleased to offer the Master of Science in Data Science exclusively in San Francisco, CA at the Galvanize SF Campus.

Please read instructions thoroughly prior to completing the application.


Application Process

Application Fee
Only online applications are accepted. NOTE: The application fee is $75 USD. However, the fee is being waived at this time.

Application materials may be scanned or created digitally and uploaded into your online application. Acceptable file formats for uploads are either Word (.doc, .docx) or PDF.

We encourage you to prepare all of your application materials prior to entering them into the system. Please see the complete details in the “Documents Needed for Application Review” section below.

You cannot upload application materials after your application has been submitted and processed.

If admitted, you will be required to submit OFFICIAL documentation of all academic work attempted or completed, prior to enrollment. This includes all official transcripts/academic records, degree statements, test scores, etc. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the college or university to the Graduate Enrollment Office at the address above. A list of required documents will be included in your formal letter of admission.

Documents Needed for Application Review

  1. Academic Records/Transcripts.
    2. Three Letters of Recommendation.
    3. Personal Statement.
    4. A current resume.
    5. English Language Test Scores. (INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ONLY)
    6. Financial Documentation. (INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ONLY)
    7. Resident Alien/Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) – If applicable.
    8. Optional Supplemental Information.

Academic Records / Transcripts

Please provide academic records from each institution attended, showing graded course work for all academic work attempted or completed.

If the institution is outside the United States, both an original language version and certified English translation of all academic records and degree statements are required. Certificates/diplomas for all degrees earned must be included. Please see the International Admissions site for complete details.

Note: Applicants to the MS Data Science program must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, mathematics, statistics, science or some other technical field from an accredited institution. Please see catalog for complete details.

Letters of Recommendation

Three Letters of Recommendation. Letters should come from people familiar with the applicant’s academic or work-related skills, performance, and promise. Typically, recommenders are current and former professors and/or employers.

As part of the application for admission, you may provide the names and email addresses of recommenders. The letter of recommendation system triggers an email to each recommender and enables him or her to submit a confidential electronic letter for you. Electronic letters are added to your file within one working day of receipt in most cases.

Personal Statement

The personal statement should address:

  1. Your interest in pursuing a career in data science.
    2. Your professional goals and how a degree from our program relates to those goals.
    3. Please also include any information that you feel would be important for the admissions committee to be aware of when evaluating your application.

English Language Test Scores

Unofficial test scores will be accepted by the Graduate School for review purposes.

TOEFL / IELTS / PTE: The ETS institution code for UNH is 3663. All applicants whose native language is not English must meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements for admission:
Minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the IBT
OR Minimum IELTS score of 6.5
OR Minimum PTE score of 53

Financial Documentation (for International applicants only)

Financial documentation is not required at the time of application. However, for those applicants who do become accepted into the program, an 1-20 cannot be process until documents have been received. If you choose to submit the documents prior to acceptance please use the following address:

After the admission process, all international students who are accepted into the program must submit the completed Financial Statement for International Students and an ORIGINAL current bank statement to the address above prior to being issued an I-20 – for more details please visit, http://www.newhaven.edu/admissions/internationaladmissions/I20.

Please note: International students are required to be enrolled full-time by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement laws.

Resident Alien/Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) – If applicable

Applicants who have been granted Permanent Residence in the United States must provide a copy of the front and back of the Resident Alien/Permanent Resident card prior to admission.

Applicants who have applied for Permanent Residence, but whose applications have not yet been processed, can instead provide a copy of the USCIS Form I-797C, Notice of Action (A copy of the final Resident Alien/Permanent Resident card is requested when it is available).

Optional
Optional GRE. The MS in Data Science does not require an applicant to take the GRE. Applicants who choose to submit scores should be prepared to upload their GRE scores report for verification. The ETS institution code for UNH is 3663.
